How we began our composting program
From our inception, we have always been an environmentally responsible company. In the Waterloo Region, businesses, unlike residences, don’t have access to any formal composting programs. This means that all waste is put into the garbage and sent to the landfill – even food waste.
That’s why Kitchener Clean launched the Office Compost Program. We proudly offer our office composting services to businesses across the Waterloo Region, helping businesses to affect climate change in a positive way.
When cleaning for clients, we noticed large volumes of organic waste being thrown into the garbage, only to be sent to local landfills.
How it works?
As a member of the Office Compost Program, you will receive an Organic Green Bin to collect all your organic waste and compostable materials. Office composting works just like composting at home. All the same items that you would Green Bin at home can be put in the Organic Waste bin in the office. This includes all food scraps, coffee grinds, tea bags, paper towels, and tissues. And more. These compostables are picked up weekly or twice weekly by one of our Office Compost Program Team Members, and your filled green bin is replaced with a freshly cleaned, sanitized, disinfected and lined green bin.
Once your office sign ups with the Kitchener Clean Office Composting Program, we will supply you with your green bin(s).
We will send a Team Member to collect your green bin once a week or twice a week, depending on your specific schedule.
We weigh your green bin and send the organic waste to a composting site. We also send you a report every three months showing you how much waste you’ve diverted from the landfill, and you can see how much you have impacted the environment in a positive way.
