Our Story

Every Clean Tells a Story, and We Write Excellence

We’re more than an office cleaning service. We’re a family-owned business deeply rooted in the values of customer service, honesty, integrity, high training, and cleaning quality. Our 15+ year story started with house cleaning. Today, we are still firmly committed to cleaning your office as thoroughly as we would clean your home. At Kitchener Clean, our journey in Kitchener-Waterloo started as a local house cleaning service, where we honed our skills and dedication. Today, we bring that same care to your workspace, focusing on quality, reliability, experience, and sustainability. Our Office Cleaning Team Members are committed to delivering pristine office environments, from comprehensive disinfection to Eco-friendly practices. We’ve become the top choice for reliable office care services in Kitchener-Waterloo and Cambridge.

2009

The Founding Years

Derrick started Kitchener Clean as a house cleaning business in the Waterloo region, initially just himself and two Team Members. Over the next six years, we experienced significant growth, serving 64 house cleaning Clients and expanding our staff to eight Team Members. This steady growth is a testament to our commitment to quality and customer satisfaction.

Our first office cleaning Client is welcomed to the business

2011- 2014

The Growth

We continue to grow our house cleaning Client base, as well as slowly accepting new office cleaning Clients. Our Team Members looked after our house cleaning Clients and Derrick Cared for our office cleaning Clients in the evenings and on the weekends

2015

The Change

Derrick and Tori realize that a change in focus is necessary. By the end of the year, we have sadly said goodbye to our last house cleaning Client, after ensuring that they had someone else to care for them. This marked a significant shift in our business as we decided to change our complete focus to office cleaning Clients.

2015 - 2020

Our Growing Years

We continued to welcome new office cleaning Clients and grow our Team Members Team.

2018

Compost Initiative

After years of seeing all of the waste that was generated in our Clients' kitchens and lunchrooms, we introduced our Unique Office Compost Program to the Waterloo Region. This initiative was our response to the growing concern about environmental sustainability and our commitment to reducing waste in our Clients' workplaces.

2020 - 2022

The Pandemic Years

We had to shut down our Office Compost Program since most of our Clients were no longer in the office. It was a tough time for our office cleaning as well, since so many of our Clients were struggling along with us. However, we introduced our Office Germ Protection program for the ultimate in office safety, and continue to offer that service, demonstrating our resilience and commitment to serving our clients even in challenging times.

2022 - 2023

Post Pandemic

We survived the Pandemic, and went back into rebuild mode - never sacrificing our core principles of quality, consistency and reliability. Our unwavering commitment to these principles is what sets us apart and ensures the satisfaction of our Clients.

2024

The Next Level

We are finally able to bring back our Office Compost Program! We also began to bring our years of cleaning excellence for smaller offices to larger companies, providing Floor Care of all types, Industrial and Manufacturing Cleaning, Warehouse Cleaning and starting to provide daytime Team Member Care

The Expertise

Derrick Carroll

Founder & CEO

From House Cleaning to #1 Eco Cleaning Company In the Region

Derrick Carroll graduated in 1985 with a B. Comm in Accounting and went into industry for ten years. He decided that he didn’t want to stay in accounting, so he went into sales, selling computer products and services. By 2002, he had started his own computer sales and service business, which ran successfully until the economic downturn of 2008 and 2009. Having to start over again, he started Kitchener Clean in 2009. Initially, the business concentrated strictly on house cleaning. After three years, it welcomed its first office cleaning client, and three years later, it was solely focusing on office cleaning. Derrick’s philosophy has always been to treat all of his businesses as professional service businesses. Office Cleaning is no different from accounting, computer services, or other services such as engineering.

Living Wage

What is a Living Wage?

A living wage is the hourly wage a worker needs to earn to cover their basic expenses and participate in their community.

A living wage is not the same as the minimum wage, which is the legislated minimum all employers must pay and is set by the provincial government. The living wage reflects what people need to earn to cover the actual costs of living in their community. The living wage draws on community-specific data to determine the expenses to a family with two working adults and two children. Living wage employers voluntarily decide to pay a living wage and maintain their certification as new rates are calculated for their area.

Why is it necessary?

More and more people are working for low wages. They are facing impossible choices — buy food or heat the house, feed the children or pay the rent. The result can be spiralling debt, constant anxiety, and long-term health problems. In many cases it means that the adults in a family are working long hours, often at two or three jobs, just to pay for basic necessities. Employees that earn a living wage can face fewer of these stressors; employers that pay a living wage can be confident they are not keeping their employees in poverty.

“Integrity is one of the core values of our Professional Office Cleaning company. We sincerely hope to improve the communities we service as well as the lives of our employees, which is why Kitchener Clean has decided to become a proud Living Wage Employer,” said Derrick Carroll and Tori Savage, partners at Kitchener Clean. “We wholeheartedly embrace the living wage philosophy and are thrilled to be partnering with the Ontario Living Wage Network in order to provide employment that will not only improve the well-being of our staff, but will also improve the overall health of the Canadian economy.”
